Product description

Thank you for watching my item.

Local Government Act of Japan started 60 years ago and JAPAN 47 PREFECTURES COIN PROGRAM has been started in commemoration. There are 47 prefectures in Japan. The silver coin whose face value is 1,000yen and the bi-color clad coin whose face value is 500yen, are to be published one by one as memorial coins.

This is 500 yen coin of SAGA Prefecture. SAGA prefecture is located in the northern part of Kyushu Island. The design on the obverse side is the portrait of SHIGENOBU OKUMA and the geometric pattern behind his portrait is a typical pattern of SAGANISHIKI - local speciality fabric of SAGA prefecture.
SHIGENOBU OKUMA was born in SAGA prefecture in 1838 and was a statesman in the Empire of Japan and the 8th and 17th Prime Minister of Japan. He is also the founder of WASEDA UNIVERSITY.
