Local Government Act of Japan started 60 years ago and JAPAN 47 PREFECTURES COIN PROGRAM has been started in commemoration. There are 47 prefectures in Japan. The silver coin whose face value is 1,000yen and the bi-color clad coin whose face value is 500yen, are to be published one by one as memorial coins.

This is 500 yen coin of AOMORI Prefecture. AOMORI prefecture is located in the northern part of HONSHU Island JAPAN. The design on the obverse side is Archaeological Site of SANNAIMARUYAMA and Clay figure.
  Archaeological Site of SANNAIMARUYAMA is a remain of massive hamlet in the Jomon Era (the 10th century BC) and was designated as a special historic spot. Residences, Ware houses and 3 stories building as a symbol of this site were rebuilt.
